Is the Big Fella Gone?

Written by Rod Shearman

Last night as I lay sleeping fast

Is the whale then no more?

I dreamt that this had come to pass

Is the big fella gone?

Sixty tons of streamlined grace

Has she disappeared from the earth’s face

Beneath the waves he echoes long

Will we never hear the humpback’s song?

By artic shores in waters chill

Does the mighty blue hunt the tiny krill?

And when she leapt above the waves

Will we never see the grey at play

In eastern seas in waters cold

From tropic shores to the southern pole

Last night as I lay sleeping fast

I dreamt that this had come to pass.
