Roll Alabama Roll

When the Alabama’a keel was laid

Roll Alabama Roll

It was laid in the yard of Jonathon Laird

O Roll Alabama Roll

She was laid in the yard of Johnathon Laid

It was in the town of Birkenhead

Down the Mersey way she sallied then

She was Liverpool fitted with guns and men

To the western isle she sallied forth

To destroy the commerce of the North

To Cherbourg port she went one day

To take her share of prize money

Oh many a sailor met his doom

When the Kearsarge she hove in view

They shot from the forward pivot that day

Shot the Alabama’s keel away

Off the three mile limit in 64

The Alabama sank to the ocean floor

Not wanting to be picky, BUT – the name of the port is ‘Cherbourg; (in France), and the vessel that sank the Alabama was the USS Kearsarge (named after Mt Kearsarge in New Hampshire). Hope this is helpful.
